This was a series of firsts for me – first total solar eclipse, first visit to Easter Island, first time with Twilight Tours, first time with an American company (I live in the UK) – so naturally I was a little nervous but Joel’s regular updates and reassurances made the whole trip extremely enjoyable and worthwhile. The hotels, the guides, the programme of events and all the arrangements were carefully thought out and worked perfectly.
Of course, we were so lucky with the weather but my view was that even if it had been thick cloud, at least I had been to a most fascinating place. The mix of organised tours and free time worked very well. The decision to watch the eclipse from the hotel grounds was a master stroke allowing us access to free refreshments and plenty of our own space to set up our equipment, as well as to enjoy a delicious traditionally cooked celebration meal afterwards. Never having seen a total solar eclipse before I greatly appreciated the guidance on what to look for during the whole event; this added tremendously to the experience.
After returning to mainland Chile I joined another group to visit the Atacama Desert. They too had been to Easter Island to see the eclipse and talking to them made me realise how fortunate I had been to discover and choose to go with Twilight Tours (which sounds like a cheesy advert but it is most sincerely meant). Thank you Joel and all who contributed to this memorable trip.
