Review 6/22/2010

I conducted an internet search for movers to assist with my move from Pittsburgh, PA to St. Cloud, Florida and came across Sunshine Vanlines. Janet was more than courteous and I was surprised that every time I called I was able to speak with her. She emailed me a quote with the BBB logo and I did verify that they were accredited but to my dismay didn’t read the reviews. I agreed with the quote and paid a $200 deposit. The quote I received was minimal and inaccurate as to what my final charges were. The driver informed me of Janet’s mistakes that I didn’t catch on the quote. One inaccurate item listed was my King canopy poster bed. Janet listed only 1 column. The company was a day late. The driver said he’d been traveling for 15 days and didn’t have any money for gas and tolls and also stated he came from NJ and didn’t realize I was “that far”. Said he shouldn’t have came to pick up my furniture and continuously asked for cash when their order service clearly states that 60% of the payment is due at the time of pickup which can be paid by check, money order or cash. I contacted the owner Rahim and he said the driver was lying. I was willing to pay $1,000 by check when, after storing my furniture on the truck, the owner called and said my credit card was declined & was very obnoxious and said he wouldn’t take less than $1400 or I could pay the shippers $1,000 to return the merchandise if I disagreed. I used the same credit card & traveled to Walmart to purchase $1,300 dollars in money orders because the banks were closed at that time. The drivers didn’t pack the truck accordingly and had spaces to inflate my cubic feet. I contacted Janet to ask if she could change my receiving date for Friday June 4 and she agreed but rushed me off the phone. I called on June 3rd to confirm but was told they needed more time and said they'd be there on June 9th. I was very concerned about not receiving my furniture and they were once again late. The shippers scratched up the floor in the home I was renting. When my furniture arrived to its designation, the mirror to my dresser was cracked and the shippers (in Florida) said that’s how they received it! This company truly doesn’t deserve the (B) rating because of their deceptive practices and they need to be investigated! The company is located in NJ not Florida! I tried to reach them several times and the line was disconnected. Someone from Vanline accidentally called me from a NJ number and I researched it & it was someone's home. What’s truly said is that my son received the furniture in Florida and I’m still in Pittsburgh so I don’t really know the extent of damage they may have caused to my electronics or remaining furniture or if there’s items missing! My total charges for their service was $2,400. Please stay far way from this company. By the way, my original quote was $1,091.00.
