A couple of years ago, I paid down our mortgage and refinanced at lower rate for fewer years. I did not request or need a "mortgage modification". I received unsolicited advertisements from Newport Beach based companies doing "mortgage modification". I called just to see if there were up front fees and found there were. This is illegal in California. (It is also illegal in Florida in most circumstances and may be in other states as well.) I reported one such company to the CA Attorney General's office. If you find yourself the target of this type of solicitation, I strongly urge you to report it. Do not be a victim of such scams. The AG's office told me that as soon as they shut down one of these companies, another pops up with a different name. I don't recall if Prudent was one of them, but I do suggest that consumers be wary.
