I bought a Fujitsu P1630 over a year ago in 2009. The LCD screen flickers at all brightness settings except full brightness level. For a year, I had been sending the Notebook in and out of Fujitsu Service Centers. Till date, they are still unable to resolve the LCD flickering problems.

On 4th March 2010, Fujitsu emailed: "We have evaluated this notebook and found that the issue is a limitation. It only flickers when it is not at its full brightness capability. It flickers here with our lab unit as well when not using full brightness. The notebook will have to be used at full brightness when on ac power and battery power".

I explained that I cannot use it at full brightness at all time and asked for refund. No response from Fujitsu, despite reminders.

On 5th May 2010, Fujitsu Customer Service Manager finally responded: “...Please see the notes regarding the testing that was performed. This unit was sent to our engineering department for further testing and per engineering the unit is performing to its specifications. We will not be refunding you for your notebook as it clearly states when a refurbished notebook is purchased it is non refundable. Your notebook per engineering meets all of the guidelines and is performing to its specifications.”

I asked for further explanation.

Fujitsu again insisted: “In order for the flickering not to happen, please use the notebook at full brightness when in use.”

No choice, cannot use a Notebook with LCD flickering

As heard from Fujitsu staffs that this LCD flickering problem exists on all Fujitsu Notebook P1630 model. The LCD flickering is more noticeable under low brightness level setting in a room with dim light. That’s how I usually work and it had caused me headaches. Therefore, I refused to collect the Notebook back after it spent most of the time in Service Center. It seems to be a design or manufacturing flaw that Fujitsu refused to acknowledge. Coupled with the care less attitude from Fujitsu Customer Service, I had a very bad experience dealing with Fujitsu.
